I have learned not to impose a form upon it, but to follow where it leads. People reveal themselves as the copper does. Not all at once, and rarely in words. Pieces emerge. Their rawness. Their truth.
When I forge for someone, that's what I'm holding alongside the copper. Somewhere between my hands, the fire and the metal, the two begin to meet. I let the copper take its form until the essence of the person is revealed.
